Tragedy and despair struck on Saturday night, and Cape Town is weeping. Eight victims, aged between five and 26-years-old, were admitted to hospital after a green Honda Ballade randomly fired shots at guests attending a birthday party.
The incident took place at a residence in Montclair Drive, Mandalay around 8:20pm on October 16, and according to police spokesperson, Andre Traut, the occupants of the vehicle fled the scene thereafter.
A 24-year-old female succumbed to her injuries while seven others are hospitalised, and a 72-hour Activation Plan has been implemented to bring to book those responsible for the shooting incident.
While detectives are gathering evidence to determine the motive for this callous attack on these young people, the public is requested to come forward with information that can assist SAPS with their investigation. Crime Stop can be contacted on 08600 10111 where your identity will be protected.
“Additional operational forces have been deployed in Lentegeur policing precinct to stabilise the situation and to support the detectives with their investigation,” said Traut.
“These forces will remain in the area until we are satisfied with the progress of our operational endeavours,” he added.
