While you may remember the popular seafront location as the ‘Winchester Mansions’, which sparks warm feelings of nostalgia, there’s a new name on the Sea Point block to get excited about – the Winchester Hotel. This iconic slice of paradise recently underwent a full renovation, and we’re pretty much obsessed!
Situated along the scenic Sea Point Promenade and facing the Atlantic Ocean, with the breathtaking backdrop of Table Mountain, the Winchester Hotel in Cape Town has a rich heritage, while its classic Cape Dutch architecture tells a luxurious story of sophistication.
And if you’ve been daydreaming of lounging around and immersing yourself in tranquility, with a hint of sleek comfort, then it’s time to make your booking, because these glorious doors are now wide open from November 8 2021. The wellness spa will open early next year.

Now under the management of Newmark Hotels, Reserves, Lodges and Residences, CEO Neil Markovitz explains that reinvention of this hotel has more of a “contemporary look and feel, while still paying respect to the proud history of the building.”
During this refurbishment, the historic details and features of the interior architecture of The Winchester Hotel have been maintained, and in some places even reinstated, while bringing in furnishings, colour palettes and styling that add a modern appeal.
According to their website, a crisp classic black and white colour scheme features throughout the hotel’s main areas, which is evident by the beautiful, white panelled walls and detailed ceilings, offset by striking geometric floor tiles, all accented by quirky décor elements and antiques that portray the building’s rich history and personality.
