A newly engaged couple from Durbanville were meant to start planning their lives together, but this was tragically cut short after they died in a head-on collision along with their three-year-old daughter.
The fatal crash involved two cars along Klipheuwel Road over the weekend, and according to Durbanville police spokesperson Captain Marchell Rhode, the driver of the second vehicle sustained serious injuries and was transported to hospital.
After assessing the occupants, Professional Armed Response and Emergency Service Provider Titanium Securitas said its medical team found that 41-year-old Anton van der Spuy, Nikki Louw, and their daughter Ashleigh, had already died as a result of their injuries.
“The driver of the second vehicle sustained serious injuries and needed to be freed using the Jaws of Life. Two other passengers inside the vehicle sustained minor injuries and were transported to a nearby hospital,” the company expressed.
Warrant Officer Joseph Swartbooi said a case of culpable homicide has been registered for further investigation, News24 reports.
Meanwhile, as festive season approaches, Arrive Alive has cautioned motorists to remain vigilant on the roads. “Roads will be busier and that always means there’s an increased risk of incidents occurring. All road uses must remain as vigilant as possible and focus on the road, whether they are drivers, passengers, riding a motorcycle, or a pedestrian.
“We must stress that while our country’s traffic law enforcers work exceedingly hard over this period to ensure everyone is safe, road users have a major responsibility to themselves, their passengers, and to other road users. Any attempts to reduce our country’s horrific road fatality numbers will amount to nothing without a concerted effort from everyone on the road,” says the AA.
