Turbo is certainly living up to her name by making a speedy recovery after being in turtle rehab for the last two months. She is stable and will be swimming away into paradise after being signed off for release.
According to the Two Oceans Aquarium Education Foundation, Turbo was found by her rescuers, the Spill Tech team, during a beach and nurdle clean up at De Hoop Nature Reserve on September 22.
Initially, they thought she was dead as she was laying upside down in the sun. However, after turning her over, they realised that she was still alive, and after moving her to the shade, they called the Turtle Rescue Hotline at the Two Oceans Aquarium.
“De Hoop rangers responded immediately to the call, collecting and transporting her directly to [the] awaiting team at Two Oceans Aquarium, arriving within a few hours of her discovery. Ranger Charles, Wayne of Spill Tech and their teams were instrumental in Turbo’s amazing rescue effort!,” the Two Oceans Aquarium Education Foundation states.
They went on to say that they are appreciative of the Greenfish team, who have successfully raised funds for Turbo to receive a satellite tag on release. This will enable to help them find out more about Green sea turtle behaviour and movements along the southern African coastline.
