Uber Eats made its first-ever food delivery to space after teaming up with Japanese billionaire entrepreneur and delivery superfan, Yusaku Maezawa, to hand deliver beloved ready-to-eat canned Japanese dishes to the astronauts at the International Space Station.
According to a statement, the delivery was made on December 11 at 9:40am EST having travelled 248 miles and 8 hours and 34 minutes since Maezawa’s departure from Earth.
The tasty dishes on the menu includes boiled mackerel in miso, beef bowl cooked in sweet sauce, simmered chicken with bamboo shoots, and braised pork – a step away from the standard space food.
“Expanding our global footprint beyond earth’s surface has been a longtime dream and we are thrilled to partake in a small piece of history.
“This delivery marks one giant leap for Uber as we’re committed to helping people go anywhere and get anything — now, including space,” Uber Eats said.
Maezawa made headlines in 2018 when he purchased all the seats on SpaceX’s first tourist flight around the moon, and according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index, he is currently worth $3.4 billion.
