On Wednesday, December 22, the Sea, Air and Mountain (SEAM) Special Operations Rangers, K9, and TMNP Marine Unit conducted a vessel based operation and spotted a fishing vessel in the restricted zone of the Table Mountain National Park’s Marine Protected Area.
Upon searching the vessel, the SEAM team found over 200 live west coast rock lobsters and requested the poachers return them to the ocean.
Three arrests were made and one vessel was seized. It was later confirmed by the SAPS that the three arrested suspects have broken their bail conditions as they are currently released on bail for abalone poaching.
SANParks – Table Mountain National Park has expressed their thanks to the City of Cape Town Law Enforcement for their support during this operation.
