Cycling for Cape Town’s furbabies, now that’s one way to stretch your legs and do some good.
If you can’t get enough of snapping pics of your adorable cat and love getting your heart pumping with a good cycle, the Cape of Good Hope SPCA is calling all those who would love to combine these two passions to race to the rescue of animals in distress by assisting in raising funds through their participation in the Cape Town Cycle Tour 2022.
What better way to stay motivated than by helping those that cannot help themselves. The incredible initiative began in 2012 with a team of 22 cyclists, and since then, the Cape of Good Hope SPCA has entered a team every year since.
Breathtaking views, a killer workout and helping animals in distress sounds like a win, win, win.
“If you join TEAM SPCA now, you’ll not only get to experience the spirit and excitement of South Africa’s most beautiful cycling event – you’ll be racing to the rescue of animals in distress at the same time.”
According to a statement released via their website, the SPCA spends around R1 845 700 annually, and that’s simply on petrol to ensure that inspectors respond to cases where animals need rescuing.
“Responding to about 17 000 reports of cruelty throughout our 14 000km area of operation is not cheap, but the alternative is just too terrible to consider,” read the statement.
Cyclists ready to put one foot in front of the other will need to commit to raising a total of R2000, with a R500 deposit payable to register. By doing this, participants will receive a guaranteed entry in the Cycle Tour, SPCA branded cycle shirt, goody bag, and a waterproof portable food and water dish – score!
The Cape of Good Hope SPCA has seen a 21.4% increase in the number of pets surrendered in the 20/21 financial year, so these funds will go a long way in helping the organisation and animals in need.
