The law enforcement officer from Cape Town who was accused of shooting a homeless man in the face has been released on bail of R1000.
22-year-old Luvolwethu Kati made a brief appearance in the Wynberg Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday morning. He was arrested on Sunday for the murder of Dumisani Joxo in Rondebosch following an altercation with the 38-year-old.
“The accused was released on bail of R1 000 and his case was postponed to 12 April 2022 for further investigation,” said Western Cape National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) spokesperson Eric Ntabazalila.
The Good party’s Brett Herron responded to this incident on Twitter and said: “2 lives ruined due to a reckless & irresponsible @WesternCapeGov & @CityofCT plan that puts ill-prepared & under-trained law enforcement officers, in some cases Learner Law Enforcement Officers, on our streets with firearms. Double tragedy.”
He went on to say: “The GOOD Party is fuming and demanding justice for a homeless man it alleges was shot dead by a law enforcement officer in Cape Town.”
