As we’re dazzled by the gorgeous shades of orange and gold leaves that fall from the trees, it’s accompanied by a little nip in the air. The arrival of Autumn is in full effect and I’m on the hunt for a few cosy spots to celebrate, writes Cape {town} Etc’s Lynn Cupido.
Endless days at the beach, soaking up the sun and downing one too many sundowners have cemented summer as my favourite season. While I may be attempting to hold onto summer a little longer as the winter chill slowly creeps into my bones, there is one thing that I can say I love about colder weather – cosy nights by the fire.
Unfortunately, my cosy apartment has no fireplace, so a weekend getaway to a delightful spot that’s perfect to enjoy some autumn/winter shenanigans is on the agenda.
Sondagskloof is the perfect destination to get in touch with nature while wrapped in your furriest blanket, a warm cup of cocoa in hand. It’s nestled in the idyllic Sandies Glen Valley in the heart of the Overberg, amongst towering trees and the magical calls of nature.
The sprawling retreat offers three comfortable cabins that are spread across the property, each with its own unique feature. Choose between the Forest or Poplar Chalet – both surrounded by the rugged beauty of nature. Enjoy the views from the chalets’ wooden deck as you listen to the gentle gurgles of the stream just a stone’s throw away.
The Vlei Chalet offers a little something different. If being surrounded by towering trees isn’t something that appeals to you, book this accommodation and enjoy the sunny and lush side of life. It’s located right next to the Polar forest, so guests still have the option to enjoy a walk in the forest.
While each chalet offers enormous sliding doors that open to the incredible beauty of nature, it’s the wood-fired hot tubs and fireplaces that will truly warm your winter-iced heart.
The interior of each chalet is a little slice of the outdoors inside, with wood-panelled floors and walls reflecting the natural landscape. While the idea of relaxing and enjoying the soothing calls of nature while chilling in a hot tub is enough to satisfy my winter dreams, the joys of booking accommodation at Sondagskloof don’t stop there.
If you’re looking to enjoy a delicious wholesome meal, guests are encouraged to make use of the organic veggie garden where you can pick a few veggies of your own for meals – yum!
Sondagskloof truly is a nature lover’s dream. Scenic forest walks, cycling routes, mountain fynbos trails and walks and an icy swim in the natural dam are all a few of the incredible activities you can get up to – a dream!
Head to their website to book your accommodation.
