Delheim Estate is excited to announce the perfect way to combat the winter chills this year: July will see the return of cheese, wine and jazz at their popular mini-Jazz Fest!
Every Sunday in July and August, Delheim will be working in connection with famed Cape Town Music Academy (CTMA) to host some of the best South African music talent at the Delheim Estate in Stellenbosch. The events will take place from 11am to 3pm.
Delheim will also serve their popular cheese fondues with relevant accoutrements to help lessen the nip of Cape winter Sundays.
“We’re incredibly happy to welcome back fantastic musicians and the fans after the temporary, pandemic-related hiatus,” says Delheim Executive Director Nora Thiel. “The jazz has certainly become as big a highlight, if not bigger, as the cheese fondues we traditionally serve as part of the event at this time of the year.”
What to expect:
Jazz enthusiasts can expect Delheim’s mini-Jazz Fest to pull out all the stops at this esteemed event.
“Delheim is one of the mainstays of the Cape Jazz calendar,” says Cape Town Music Academy Projects Director and Cape jazz dynamo Luvuyo Kakaza. “With some of the hottest talent of the local scene scheduled to play, it is going to be another cracker for jazz-lovers.”
The July line-up will kick off with notable artists. The first act on 3 July will truly set the tone with Hassan’adas, the quartet ensemble lead by multi-instrumentalist John Hassan. John has previously collaborated with many renowned artists, like Miriam Makeba, Hugh Masekela, Manu Dibango, and Simply Red, to name but a few. Look forward to a multicultural blend of original African rhythms and sounds influenced by musicians all around the world
The following Sunday, on 10 July, pianist and composer Ramon Alexander will take the stage. His ensemble has performed for both local and international audiences at prestigious music festivals, most notably the Borneo International Jazz Festival and the No Black Tie Jazz Club Malaysia, and locally at the Cape Town International Jazz Festival and the Darling Music Experience.
On 17 July, Babalwa Meintjies and quartet will perform. Lead by accomplished jazz singer and songwriter Babalwa Meintjies, who has performed with well-known musicians such as Feya Faku and Neil Gonsalvies, the quartet at Delheim comprises George Werner on piano, Bongani Sotshononda on chromatic Marimba, and Carlo Fabe on drums.
Judging from these initial three events, Delheim’s mini-Jazz Fest is undoubtedly going to be a highlight of the season.
