Killarney International Raceway in partnership with the City of Cape Town is hosting another event for people who like to drive fast and loud. Their Street Mania series will take place on 16 June, and this lap is all about young guns.
“It’s about showing motorsport fans who aren’t even old enough to drive on the roads yet that there is a place for the cool stuff they see in the Fast & Furious movies, and that it can be done legally, in a safe and controlled environment,” said the event organisers.
And for this reason, gate entry to this event is free for anyone under 16 years of age. The action kicks off with Drifting and Spinning on the Tar Oval from 12pm to 4pm.
Drift & Spin Outlaws are offering a hopeful racer a slot in their timetable, with 90 minutes of competition drifting, an hour for the novice drifters, and 90 minutes of Spinkhana action.
There’s Street2Strip action on the quarter-mile, also from 12pm to 4pm, open only to street-legal cars. The Christmas Tree will be set up and the times will be announced by the commentators, but the strip will not be prepared with Track Bite and there will be no results recorded or published.
Spectators over 16-years-old get to enjoy all three events for R80 each. Western Province Motor Club members also get in for free on production of their membership books at the gate.
Tickets are available in advance via Computicket or at the gate – but bear in mind that if you purchase your tickets online, you will still have to collect the physical tickets, including the free tickets for children under 16, at Computicket or the Computicket outlet at the Money Market counter in your nearest Shoprite, Checkers, Checkers Hyper or Usave store.
The entry fee to participate is R230 for WPMC members and R300 for non-members, which includes the driver and two crew members. Late entries will be accepted between 11am and 1pm on the day of the event (still at R230 for WPMC members and R300 for non-members, but accompanied by three complimentary tickets as neither the driver nor pit crew will be on the gate list of entrants).
