Escape to a secluded sanctuary in the heart of the Cape Winelands and be immersed in the rhythm of an authentic working farm at Boschendal’s newly refreshed Retreat Cottages.
Located a little over 3km from the main Werf precinct of this historic farm, the cottages offer a relaxed and carefree base from which to explore Boschendal’s delicious soil-to-fork dining options, inspiring South African and African art exhibits, and the stunning wineland surroundings.
With direct access to world-class mountain biking and hiking trails, guests can choose how to explore the farm and see for themselves how Boschendal’s acclaimed regenerative farming practises are restoring the idyllic farmlands.
Tamara Patel, Chief Marketing Officer at Boschendal, says: “Boschendal represents so much more than just a Winelands experience. Our working, regenerative farm gives guests a chance to live our farm life their way, with a variety of outdoor experiences for all ages, exceptional dining, world-class shopping and an accommodation option to suit every taste.”
“Our thoughtfully revamped Retreat Cottages are ideal for families and groups of friends to come together for an authentic taste of farm life.”
Originally two-bedroom, one-bathroom units, all 18 Retreat Cottages have undergone a complete, carefully designed revamp. From the architecture to the interiors, cottages have been decorated in a style that combines elements of farm life and South African life.
Each cottage is now a two-bedroom, two-bathroom ensuite unit, with patios leading off the bedrooms and living areas for unfettered access to the beautiful mountain vistas. An inviting new dining area has seen the addition of a stylish service bar and comfortable seating for up to 80 guests.
A favourite feature of the cottages is the communal boma, where families and friends can gather to enjoy majestic sunsets while they reminisce about the day’s adventures – and plan the next day’s activities.
A natural pool gives respite on hot summer days, with the brush and plants on the side of the pool taking the place of chemicals for a refreshingly natural swimming experience.
For conference seekers the venue offers a state-of-the-art screening room, dining room and lounge, as well as a variety of meeting rooms, creating an ideal space for conferences, team building and strategic executive breakaways. A large lawn also lends itself to outdoor events and festivals.
Young explorers can enjoy a variety of fun activities at the Tree House, including an outdoor experience led and supervised by Boschendal’s team. This gives parents a chance to enjoy the peaceful atmosphere of the farm.
Patel adds: “Boschendal is recognised across the Cape Winelands as a much loved icon and an acclaimed food and wine destination. Our vineyards and orchards have been joined by vegetable gardens and a growing herd of free-range, 100% pasture-fed Angus cattle, Duroc pigs, lambs, chickens and goats reflecting our commitment to serving only the most wholesome farm-to-table food.”
“With the warmer months here and holidays approaching, our friendly and welcoming staff look forward to sharing the beauty of the farm with guests near and far.”
