Following the Cape Town Cycle Tour on Sunday, one person has reportedly passed away. Few details have been shared as the case is currently under investigation.
Organisers of the tour released a statement confirming the cyclist’s death and expressing their “deep regret” surrounding the incident.
“Our condolences go out to the family and friends of the rider concerned,” said the statement.
Throughout the day, 220 cyclists consulted doctors, nurses, and medical personnel along the route. Nineteen people were taken to the hospital for treatment.
The statement went on to explain that most of the injuries were due to falls and therefore primarily affected knees, elbows, shoulders and wrists.
