The accident occurred when the truck was dropping its load during road works on the R301 in Paarl, opposite Boschenmeer Estate, yesterday, 11 May 2023, at around 2pm.
The Drakenstein Fire Watch (DFW) emergency responders were immediately dispatched to the scene and called for a full-scale rescue operation after it was established that the passenger side of the vehicle was flattened by the heavy truck trailer.
Multiple rescue teams from different organisations worked together for more than 2 hours, carefully tilting and lifting the truck and cutting the vehicle to pieces to free the young girl.
Despite sustaining mild head injuries, the driver of the vehicle, who is also the girl’s father, participated in the rescue operation.
The child was transported to the hospital via ambulance.
Members of the DFW rescue team paid a visit to the child and her parents in the hospital.
We hope the brave young girl will recover fully from this terrible and traumatic ordeal, and we extend our gratitude to all those who assisted in a successful recovery.
