A fatal collision on the N1 highway between Brackenfell Boulevard and the R300 off-ramp in Cape Town resulted in the death of five children, between the ages of one and seven, on Sunday night.
The driver involved has been arrested on a charge of culpable homicide.

According to reports, the driver of a Ford Bantam LDV was transporting 11 occupants on the N1 direction Cape Town from the Koue bokkeveld to Du Noon when he lost control of the vehicle, rolled and collided with a barrier.
ER24 and other services arrived after 11pm to find the bakkie upright on the centre median.
Police spokesperson Frederick van Wyk said ‘five people passed away on the scene. An adult male was arrested and will appear in court once charged.’
The remaining six passengers were left with injuries ranging from minor to critical, reports Arrive Alive and ER24.
Three of the passengers were critically injured and treated with advanced life support before being taken to nearby hospitals for further care.
Van Wyk added that the adult female passenger was taken to Brackenfell Police Station for counselling.
ER24 was on the scene for assistance and the circumstances surrounding this accident are under investigation.
