South African-born Kinnear posted alongside the video that, while she was raised in New Zealand, she grew up speaking Afrikaans at home.
Kinnear was in the middle of filming a sports report at the Rugby World Cup Grand Final when Springbok supporters, clad in their green and gold, addressed her in Afrikaans.
Kinnear replied:
‘Ja, ek kan jou verstaan! Ja, ek verstaan!’
The phrase translates to ‘Yes, I can understand you! Yes, I understand!’
She then cheekily informed the camera, ‘Don’t speak sh***; I can speak Afrikaans.’
‘I was waiting for that. I was waiting for them to talk sh*** to me,’ she said to the camera operator.
