Takealot is expected to pay an estimated R10 million in refunds to customers following its #BacktheBucks Samsung television promotion, now that the Springboks have claimed victory at the Rugby World Cup.

The popular online store ran the #BacktheBucks promotion from 16 August and 9 September 2023, encouraging customers to support the Springboks by purchasing a Samsung TV from five qualifying models, promising a full refund if South Africa won.
In the heart-pounding final match played at the Stade de France on Saturday, the mighty Springboks asserted their prowess by claiming victory over the All Blacks with an 11-12 win.
Speaking to News24, Takealot confirmed the amount of R10 million worth of refunds for the sale of 867 TVs sold to 815 customers will be processed automatically by way of credit to a valid Takealot account or refunded to the original payment method.
Chief Marketing Officer at Takealot, Julie-Anne Walsh, expressed pride in saying, ‘As a proudly local company, built by South Africans, for South Africans, we couldn’t be more proud of the Springboks. Their tenacity and passion – on and off the field – reflects the values not just of Takealot, but the country as a whole.’
