A possible suspect is being questioned by police in connection with the murder of Pete Mihalik who was gunned down on Tuesday morning.

Mihalik (50) was dropping his two children off at Reddam House Atlantic Seaboard in Green Point when a gunman opened fire on him. He was a prominent lawyer and was in the midst of high-profile cases involving Cape Town’s underworld.

Police confirmed that he was shot in his head and fatally wounded in his vehicle. The suspect was seen fleeing the scene in a metallic grey VW Polo. The victim’s eight-year-old son sustained an injury during the incident and was admitted to hospital. The other child, a matriculant at the same school, managed to get out of the car in time and was not injured.

The mortuary van arrives to remove Pete Mihalik’s body from his car.

Speaking to EWN, his father Janos Mihalik made a plea for the killer to be found. Janos said it is his birthday on Friday and he had plans to meet his son.

He added that it was tragic and believes it was the “company in which he moved” in.

Mihalik lost his wife recently and has been caring for his children by himself. There is no further information about the young boy who was hurt.
