It’s clear to see that eating food has become much more than merely a survival necessity here in the Cape. Most of the time, we centre our social lives around it. When was the last time that a TikTok review of a restaurant appeared on your ‘for you page’? Probably just yesterday, given the hype of food culture. In fact, it’s become an entire way of life even (not that we’re complaining at all).
So if you’re looking to replenish your restaurant-to-d0 list or simply craving to discover new flavours, here are five Asian restaurants that will do just that:
1. How Bao Now
This culinary gem serves flavour-packed buns stuffed with crayfish, kimchi, brisket, and Szechuan fried chicken – to name just a few. Truth be told though, we were already hooked by the name. Who doesn’t love a good play on words? We’re ready to eat, how bao you?

2. Korea Mart
With the popularity of Korean pop culture rising steadily in Cape Town, it’s only natural that Korea Mart has become a hub-spot for all K-drama fans yearning to taste the tteokbokki, mandu or corndog they’ve seen on the latest episode. They’ve recently added a sit-down and takeaway menu (and fully halaal) to their supermarket-type store.
