The City’s Recreation and Parks Department hosted the Clash of the Choirs on Freedom Day at the Langa Community Hall as part of the celebrations to commemorate Langa’s rich cultural heritage.
The Clash of the Choirs is the second in a series of recreational festivals organised in collaboration with the local community to commemorate Langa’s 100th anniversary.

Langa Secondary and Isilimela Comprehensive High School students took part in the event, which also featured a guest performance by the Langa Legends Choir.
The choir competition is also an extension of a recreation programme in which the City’s Recreation and Parks Department and the community collaborate on choral and choir music as one of the genres.
Entertainment dignitaries who contributed to Langa’s rich musical history, such as Brenda Fassie and many others, were remembered.
‘Music is such a beautiful way to bring youth together and to celebrate our cultural history, but it is also entertaining, educational and a source of inspiration,’ said the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Community Services and Health Councillor Patricia Van der Ross. ‘We hope that this event helps to strengthen the relationship between the City and the residents of Langa so that we all can work together to create communities to be proud of.’
As part of Langa’s centenary celebrations, the Recreation and Parks Department is hosting more events at the Langa Community Hall on the last Friday of each month until September. The City can be contacted at [email protected] for more information on how to get involved.
