Father and Son Cook-Up a Unique Feast this March

Marvel Bistro, at Bill & Co Swartland Street Market, will open their kitchen to Italian father and son, Francesco and Gianluca Di Taranto, to cook-up a unique feast on March 30.

Francesco, the Michelin starred head chef and owner of Spiga d’Oro in Belgium, will cook with the Marvel team to bring guests a five-course meal paired with local wines. The wine pairing will be presented by Gianluca, head sommelier at The Jane in Antwerp.

Blackwater, City on a Hill, David & Nadia, Rall, and van Loggerenberg Wines all work with Elvama (South African food and beverage company) as wine importers to Belgium. They heard that the extended Di Taranto family will be traveling to South Africa this March and decided to put together an experience for local food and wine lovers.

The full menu, plus a welcome drink and wine pairing, will cost R950 per person. Only 50 seats will be available so booking is imperative. 

On the morning of the 30th these five winemakers will be taking a tour of five vineyards around Malmesbury and the Riebeek Valley. Each producer will present a wine at its source. Thereafter, there will be a lazy lunch at Riebeek Kasteel’s own popular Italian restaurant, Mama Cucina.

Tickets to the tour are very limited. At R400 per person, they include everything from coffee and pastries before departure to transport, wine and snacks on site, views, and lunch.
