RMB Ultra-Trail Cape Town (UTCT) has teamed up with other leading race organisers worldwide to launch the World Trail Majors. This collaboration aims to guide the evolution of trail and ultra-running while staying true to the sport’s roots.
Stuart McConnachie, the race director of RMB Ultra-Trail Cape Town (RMB UTCT), commented, ‘RMB Ultra-Trail Cape Town is very proud to be part of this association that celebrates diversity as one of the objectives. Independent races have their place in the world of trail running and by supporting, sharing and recognising each other’s place, we collaborate to continue the legacy of our sport in an independent way that is the root of this sport.’

Since its inception in 2014, RMB UTCT has drawn members of trail-running communities from over 66 countries. It’s especially popular among runners from France, Great Britain, the United States, Germany and Italy.
The event features a course spanning through Table Mountain and the Peninsula and has grown exponentially, from just 16 finishers in the 100 km race in 2014 to over 2000 participants across its various distances today.
The 2023 edition, scheduled for 24 to 26 November 2023, promises to be a highlight in the global trail running calendar.

With a focus on inclusivity, respect for nature and the identity of each race, the association seeks to preserve the sport’s core values while encouraging growth and diversity.
The association’s principles revolve around:
- Recognising and valuing the differences in each race and location enhances the sport’s appeal.
- Prioritising environmental stewardship and local community engagement.
- Ensuring each race is tailored to its history and environment.
- Focusing on minimal environmental footprint and maximum positive impact on participants and local areas.
The World Trail Majors feature the following lineup of races:
- Hong Kong 100 Ultramarathon: A showcase of Asian trail running, set in the city of Hong Kong
- Black Canyon Ultras: American trail running at its best, tracing native American trade routes in Arizona
- The North Face Transgrancanaria: A classic on the world trail running calendar, set in the Canary Islands
- Mt. Fuji 100: A spiritual journey in Japan, symbolising the ascent of the nation’s highest peak
- MIUT: Madeira Island Ultra-trail: A scenic race on the rugged island of Madeira
- Swiss Canyon Trail: A Central European gem, combining natural beauty with a challenging course
- South Downs Way: A British classic, following the historic South Downs Way
- Quebec Mega Trail: Wilderness trail running near Quebec City, Canada.
- RMB Ultra-Trail Cape Town: A blend of mountain terrain and urban landscape in South Africa
