A new culinary adventure bringing fresh and innovative food concepts is set to take over the heart of Stellenbosch come 18 July. Chef Hilde-Lee Olivier, previously known for her exquisite creations as head chef at Restaurant Jardine, brings to life the casual and vibey Toebroodjie as her new passion project.

Excited to play around with new ideas and express herself freely, Olivier plans to take over Restaurant Jardine’s original space to create an all-round and accessible eating experience that focuses not just on good food, but on good vibes as a whole too.
Armed with great music, Toebroodjie promises a delightful blend of local and Afrikaans influences with a touch of Asian flair in its core menu, according to Eat Out.
Restaurant goers can expect a lip-smacking selection of toebroodjies (sandwiches in Afrikaans) with reimagined and elevated flavour combinations. Think pastrami shokupan (Japanese milk bread) with sauerkraut and tangy mustard and an array of ciabatta sandwiches loaded with fillings such as crumbed chicken breast, pastrami and smoked brisket, sundried tomato pesto and pickles.

While the name may lead you to think toebroodjies are the only stars of the show, the culinary adventure doesn’t end there. Other mouth-watering options will include an irresistible BBQ-glazed short rib, beer-battered oysters a whole-roasted cauliflower drizzled with a curry emulsion and sultanas.
To wash it all down, Toebroodjie will be offering an impressive selection of wines sourced from across the country, paying homage to South Africa’s rich winemaking heritage, which is pretty apt given its location in Stellenbosch.
Cape {town} Etc discount: Relax and unwind in the Cape Winelands with an all-inclusive tranquillity getaway for two at Devonvale Golf & Wine Estate in Stellenbosch for R4 500 (valued at R6 880). Get it here.
Beer enthusiasts can revel in knowing that Cederberg beer will be readily available on tap, offering a refreshing accompaniment to the unique flavours of the sandwiches.
In the spirit of creating an all-around good vibe, the attached shop will house some Asian goodies, art, games and a quick takeaway.
