There’s some great news for those looking to indulge in tropical beaches, opulent royal palaces, ancient ruins and ornate temples in Thailand, as the Asian country invited South African travellers back into its Sandbox programme.
The decision to relax entry measures for African country arrivals saw the reopening of three additional Sandbox destinations namely Krabi, Phang-Nga, and Surat Thani (in addition to Phuket).
South Africans will have to apply for their Thailand Pass under the Sandbox programme or the Happy Quarantine programme and must make sure that they arrange everything in order before applying for the Sandbox Thailand Pass.
This includes, but is not limited to: a vaccination certificate, a pre-arrival negative RT-PCR test result, prepaid 7-night’s accommodation in an approved hotel, prepaid RT-PCR tests for when in Thailand, and an insurance policy with coverage no less than US$50,000 (R770 000).
“We are excited to start the year on this positive note and really look forward to welcoming South Africans now, over what are the best summer months in the country,” Chiravadee Khunsub, Director of the Tourism Authority of Thailand said.
Travellers can choose their preferred destination for the mandatory seven-day quarantine under the Sandbox programme in either Krabi, Phang-Na, Phuket, or Surat Thani (only Ko Samui, Ko Pha-ngan, and Ko Tao).
They will have to stay in a Sandbox destination for the first seven nights if planning to continue the journey to other destinations in Thailand. If travellers are staying less than seven nights, they will have to leave Thailand to another country immediately.
