NSRI East London were alerted to three male teenagers who were struggling in the surf at Eastern Beach in East London. The boys are approximately 18-years-old and believed to be learners from Middleburg, on a school tour.

NSRI dispatched a sea rescue vehicle and launched the sea rescue craft Lotto Rescuer to join Police, a Police dive unit, Police K9 Search and Rescue, Buffalo City Fire and Rescue Services dive unit, EC Government Health EMS and Buffalo City lifeguards.

One teenager was successfully rescued by surfers. He has been transported to hospital by EMS ambulance in a stable condition for observation for non-fatal drowning symptoms.

The other two teenagers remain missing in the surf. The rescue units conducted a thorough sea and shoreline search for the remaining two. Sadly, there has been no sign of the boys.

Police divers and Police K9 Search and Rescue are continuing in an ongoing search. Police have launched an investigation.

NSRI have commend the surfers who rescued one of the teenagers from the surf.
