Two buses have been destroyed in a fire at the Golden Arrow Bus Depot in Blackheath on Thursday, July 15. As reported by SABC, the cause of the fire is still unclear as the incident is being investigated by the police.
Metro police spokesperson Ruth Solomons indicated that on arrival, officers found two stationary buses up in flames and there were no signs of protesters or suspicious activity in and around the facility. Solomons says that a case will now be registered at the South African Police Services for further investigation.
Meanwhile, Golden Arrow spokesperson, Bronwen Dyke-Beyer confirmed the incident but has asked the public to refrain from spreading information that has not yet been confirmed.
“Yes, two buses were alight this morning at a small, secondary depot. We do not know the cause and it will only cause panic to start adding things like taxi violence etc, to your posts.”
Hundreds of commuters were also left stranded on Wednesday, July 14, after several taxi ranks around the city were closed due to the ongoing taxi violence in the province. Western Cape Transport MEC Daylin Mitchell also indicated during Tuesday’s online media briefing that the latest taxi-related killings bring the total number of murders to 76 since the beginning of the year.
