If your days are filled with endless to-do lists and running from one errand to the next, finding ways to stay on top of things at home can be a nightmare. If you’re looking for ways to stay on top of things, here are a few tips and tricks that will help you stay organised even when chaos seems to reign.
Unpack the goodies from your pack
If there’s anything we’ve learned from carrying countless books on our back when heading to school, it’s that a heavy bag is no fun. If you’re someone who constantly schleps their work bag around with them with all manner of contents from the previous day (yes, I did forget to take out my lunchbox with yesterday’s lunch), then unpacking your bag the minute you step through the door will be your saving grace. Lipstick, headphones, lunch container – everything. It’s also a great way to avoid having to scratch around for something you may need later when you’re in relaxation mode.
After dinner is perfect for washing dishes
Done with dinner? It’s time to wash the dishes. While this may not be the most exciting part of the evening, getting the dishes done as soon as possible will not only minimise the effort (no one wants to face a mountain of dishes) but will leave you feeling more inclined to unwind. Have you ever woken up the next morning with the food from the previous night all hard and stuck to your favourite pan? After dinner is actually the perfect time for a little dishwashing as food hasn’t had time to harden and get stuck in your life.
Get ahead of the week
There’s nothing that gives you quite the reality check than hearing the Carte Blanche theme music. Sundays may be a time to relax, but it’s also a great opportunity to get ahead of the week and beat the dreaded Sunday scaries. Cut your morning routine in half by picking your outfit the night before. The same can be done for a number of activities, including lunch prep, bag packing and a well-established to-do list.
Pack it away
Sometimes laziness can strike, and something as simple as packing a book away can seem like a mammoth task. There’s nothing worse than coming to the end of the week and realising that you’ve now relegated the coffee table to your random pile of stuff you didn’t feel like putting away. No matter how hard the sloth in you moans and groans, make sure you get up and pack your knick-knacks away – you’ll feel so much better!
A clean kitchen and coffee
Who doesn’t love waking up to a clean kitchen? There’s no better time to do a light cleanup than when you’re waiting for your coffee or tea to brew. Anything from packing the dishes away or cleaning the kitchen counters will save you so much time in the morning and may just help you to wake up.
