The Department of Health has initiated the new COVID-19 vaccine certificate on Tuesday, October 5. The launch comes after the department indicated a week ago that this new strategy is a secured and verifiable proof of vaccination.
According to the Department of Health, citizens can use the certificate to facilitate travel, gain access to establishments and gatherings, and other forms of activity where proof of their vaccination status are required.
However, this is only for those who are fully vaccinated against COVID-19 as citizens are required to disclose their personal information and Electronic Vaccination Data System (EVDS) code, Business Insider reports.

President Cyril Ramaphosa also mentioned that the streamlining and standardising proof of vaccination will also contribute towards lowering the COVID-19 numbers when it comes to international travel restrictions, IOL reported.
Meanwhile, reports by the Sunday Telegraph indicated that the United Kingdom Government is likely to remove South Africa from the ‘red list’ when they review their decision on travel restrictions this week, which is great news for the tourism and hospitality sector in the Western Cape.
Western Cape Minister of Finance and Economic Opportunities, David Maynier says the province has been hard to engage with all key decision-makers both in the UK and in South Africa, including writing to the UK Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs, the Rt Hon Elizabeth Truss MP, on the decision to keep South Africa on the UK ‘red list’ which seems manifestly unfair.
