An unvaccinated Canadian father has lost the right to see his 12-year-old child after a judge ruled that his visits would not be in the best interest of the child.
According to BBC News, this follows after the father requested to extend his visiting time during the holidays. The decision made at the end of December 2021 in Quebec province suspended the father’s right to visit until February unless he decides to get his vaccine against COVID.
The 12-year-old, however, has been vaccinated, and the judge’s rule was seen as a protection against the current highly contagious variant, Omicron, reports New York Post.
The mother who disagreed with the father’s request to extend his visitation time, told the court that it was only brought to her attention recently that the father was unvaccinated and he used his social media to show he was against vaccines.
The mother lives with her partner and two other children who are allegedly too young to get vaccinated.
The judge said it was not “in the child’s best interest to have contact with their father due to the recent increase in Covid cases in French-speaking Quebec”, as per BBC News.
Quebec has reportedly seen an increase in the number of COVID-related deaths in Canada and would soon be set to impose a tax on residents who are not vaccinated against COVID-19.
