A case of culpable homicide has been registered with the SAPS after a homeless man was killed when a police vehicle knocked into him while chasing after alleged suspects on Sunday, 13 February.
According to the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) officers attached to the Bellville police station were chasing a Silver Toyota Corolla that did not have a registration number from Voortrekker Road in Bellville.
“While still chasing the vehicle, on the corner of Bill Bezuidenhout and Old Paarl road the SAPS vehicle knocked a traffic light together with an innocent bystander that was standing next to the traffic light,” IPID said.
