The City of Cape Town has closed an area of Clifton 4th Beach on Sunday, 27 March, until further notice.
According to the City, the temporary closure is due to a sewer pump station failure at Clifton 4th, resulting in wastewater pooling into the beach.
“Following an assessment of the situation, a decision was taken to close only a section of the beach area. Signage has been erected, advising the public of the situation,” the City said.
The City further indicated that various City departments have now been deployed to respond to the incident.
“Repairs to the pump station are underway, the cause of the failure is under investigation too,” the City adds.
Meanwhile, a berm has been constructed to prevent wastewater from contaminating the seawater.
