Commuters headed out of the Northern Suburbs this morning were faced with their worst traffic nightmares as a devasting 13 vehicle pile-up forced motorists to seek alternative routes and authorities shut down all lanes.
According to Times Live, the accident was caused after a truck jack-knifed. Traffic spokesperson Kevin Jacobs reportedly described the scene as “dynamic” and that the number of injured individuals still remains unclear.
The N1 heading into the City was initially closed but was soon reopened with traffic being diverted via the Plattekloof Road off-ramp. Motorists are being advised to use Frans Conradie and Voortrekker as alternatives.
“The full complement of the city’s emergency services are on scene,” said Jacobs.
Pictures and videos of the aftermath of the crash have since been doing the rounds on social media.
