If you’ve ever thought “They’ve made an app for everything” you wouldn’t be wrong, and with the news of a crowdfunding app for funerals in South Africa, this sentiment is only further strengthened.
Tech start-up, Sendoff, released its funeral planning app last year, but in 2022 they’re creating a crowdfunding addition to their app, set for August as BusinessInsider expresses.
Planning a funeral can be emotionally strenuous, and so the idea to make the process guided and easier became the blueprint for Sendoff.
Sendoff offers a range of other services to make funeral planning as smooth as possible, from flowers and arrangements to venue bookings and coffin selections.
The crowfunding platform will help out on the other side of the planning – the financial side, helping people receive funds to cover funeral costs, using digital mobilisation to make this happen.
Taking cues from platforms like GoFundMe, the app designers are focusing on funeral fundraising which is often a costly endeavour for families.
“We’ve come with what we think is a really smart way of doing it, where we link it to a user’s phone, and you can send people money, literally at the touch of a button from the Sendoff app, and it goes straight to their phone,” Zolani Matebese from Sendoff said to BusinessInsider.
The product will take the name Matshidiso, following the Sesotho referral to consolation.
