In efforts to keep young minds busy and active this coming winter holidays, the City’s Libraries and Recreation and Parks Department are bringing a wide range of activities across the city to keep them entertained.
Games, sport, a potjiekos competition and awareness talks are part of the offerings at the City’s recreational hubs. The holiday programme caters to a variety of ages and interests such as nature, sport, music, art and theatre, and includes indoor, outdoor, physical and non-physical activities.
The City’s mayoral committee member for Community Services and Health, Councillor Patricia van der Ross, said these school holiday programmes are designed with children in mind and are aimed at being engaging and exciting.
“Our holiday programmes are perfect for not only keeping them active, but they’ll have the chance to socialise, be challenged in new ways and might even pick up new skills,” she said.
She added that these programmes will keep the youngest residents positively engaged, entertained and safe.
Registration for each activity is offered on a first-come-first-serve basis, which takes place at the start of each event. The City said many of these activities are offered at no cost, however, some require a minimal fee.
Each facility runs their own set of activities. Below is an overview of what is on offer across the facilities:
