Stellenbosch University student Babalo Ndwayana, who had his belongings urinated on, had reportedly walked out of the disciplinary hearing for offender Theuns du Toit.
Speaking to News24, Ndwayana’s lawyer, Nomonde Gxilishe, stated that once the preliminary issues were dealt with at the start of the hearing, Ndwayana was not satisfied with the panel appointed as he did not feel they would be objective.
Despite the massive uproar the incident caused, the University had stated it would be conducting a proper investigation into the matter. According to IOL, the disciplinary hearing had been scheduled for 22 June with no further details provided to the public.
Du Toit had been suspended from the university after footage of him urinating on Ndwayana’s belongings went viral. Du Toit had reportedly told Ndwayana that this was “what white boys do” with many immediately labelling the incident as racist.
The incident occurred on 15 May in Ndwayana’s room at Huis Marais residence.
The disciplinary hearing is currently taking place behind closed doors.
