If you’re anywhere near the southern suburbs at any given time, then we’re sure every year you’ve seen the many posters up on the street lamps with the words “Rondebosch Potters Market” boldly printed.
The Rondebosch Potters Market is a ceramics market held biannually on the last Saturday of March and November. Curated by Ceramics SA for over 45 years, the market showcases ceramics of all sorts made by talented local potters from around the country.

You’ll discover a wide range of ceramics, stoneware and earthenware at a satisfying price. Since you’re buying directly from the makers, there’s no middleman and therefore no inflated retail prices.

Food and beverage stalls are dotted around the park and buskers will serenade you as you wander through the leafy canopy of oak trees browsing through the most beautiful original ceramics of all shapes, textures, colours and sizes, made both professionally and by hobbyist potters.
If you’re not already obsessed, it’s the perfect place to fall in love with pottery – not to mention bagging a few great bargains along the way, especially if you get there early. The beauty of ceramics is that each item, whether perfect or imperfect, much like ourselves, has its own story to tell. No two pieces are exactly the same.
But don’t just take our word for it; make your way to Rondebosch Park on Saturday, 26 November, to test the theory. You may even discover a pottery class or three if you simply inquire from any of the vendors.
The details:
- Date: Saturday, 26 November 2022
- Location: Rondebosch Park, corner of Sandown and Campground roads, Rondebosch
