The family heard police sirens before four police vans and a white ghost squad car arrived at their front gate just before 11.00pm on Monday, November 14, as reported by the People’s Post.
“One policeman was standing at the outside gate. My son went out to ask him what the problem was. The officer said they had been tipped off that somebody had been selling drugs on the premises,” the report quoted a 66-year-old victim who wished to remain anonymous.
The woman alleged they asked the “officers” if they had a search warrant, which they claimed to have but never showed to the family, the report said.
“My son opened the gate, the two policemen came in and out of nowhere four guys also entered. They were wearing civilian clothes. They came in and told me they are going to search the house. I said it is fine, but if you get drugs in the tuck shop, that has nothing to do with me because that is run by Pakistani tenants,” the report quoted the woman as saying.
She claimed she was locked in a room but could hear the suspects searching around the house. They then demanded her cellphone so they could make a call.
“They came back into my room and then the officer pulled out a gun and told me to keep quiet because I was protesting. He said, ‘Keep quiet or we will shoot you.'”
“He pointed the gun at me and told me to get up and sit on the bed. He held the gun to my forehead. Then I realised, I must keep quiet.”
According to IOL, the woman’s son said the bogus officers “proceeded to ransack both our house and our tenants of any valuables they could find. At this point my mom seized the opportunity to call for help on the landline, which she had hidden under a pillow” and the “real SAPS and metro police later showed up”.
“They could not believe the story,” he said.
Police confirmed the incident and said that the suspects fled the scene with electronic equipment, cellphones and an undisclosed amount of cash.
Police spokesperson, Sergeant Wesley Twigg, said that no shots or injuries were reported during the robbery and that a case of house robbery was under investigation.
