During an interview with Annika Larsen on My Guest Tonight, which was reported by IOL, Khan revealed that a protocol was breached on the night of the incident.
According to him, AKA’s security was compromised when he was taken to Wish Restaurant on Florida Road. Khan’s statement has added to the ongoing investigation.
Khan said he would have ensured AKA’s safety by escorting him from the airport to the hotel, from the hotel to the show, from the show back to the hotel, and finally from the hotel to the airport. Khan’s remarks underscore the importance of security measures for public figures, especially those in the entertainment industry. This development has sparked further discussion and raised concerns about the security protocols in place for artists and their entourage.
He added, ‘No additional movements on the side. In my absence, ok, protocol was breached. Kiernan was called and invited to go to Florida Road, Wish, which he accepted and he went. Had I been there then protocol would have not been breached. Because the call would have came through the road manager.’
Khan said he would have advised AKA not to go to Wish on that night.
Rapper Kiernan ‘AKA’ Forbes was fatally shot outside Wish Restaurant on Florida Road in Durban on the evening of 10 February 2023. His former manager and long-time friend, Tebello ‘Tibz’ Motsoane was also fatally shot.
