Yesterday, the South African Weather Service (SAWS) issued a level 5 weather warning, indicating a high probability of severe rainfall and thunderstorms in the western regions of the Western Cape.

Community WhatsApp groups shared videos of flooding on the road between Touwsriver and Laingsburg N1, located between Worcester and Beaufort West.

There were reports of power outages in the region, which were not related to loadshedding. The Worcester fire department confirmed that a distribution box was hit by lightning.
The Breede Valley Municipality’s electrical team released a statement last night that identified that De Doorns was undergoing a power outage due to damage inflicted on an overhead line by lightning. A team was assigned to the site to resolve the issue.

Motorists in Wellington and Worcester are being cautioned to take care while driving as some roads have been flooded.
