The SA Weather Service (SAWS) issued a level 5 weather warning, alerting to heavy rain and thunderstorms in western parts of the Western Cape today. The areas most affected will be the Breede Valley, Stellenbosch, Langeberg and Drakenstein.
Downpours ranging from 50mm to 80mm, accompanied by gale-force winds of 50kph to 62kph plus gusts of 60kph to 80kph, large hail and lightning, are on the horizon.
The conditions are expected to start this afternoon, 23 March 2023, and continue until Friday 24 March 2023.
These conditions will make it difficult to drive, so road users are advised to travel with caution.
Farmers in the affected areas are advised to protect their property as livestock, crops and other agricultural infrastructure may be damaged due to the hail.
