A woman lost her life in a shooting while driving her young grandchildren to school. According to witnesses, there was a belief that the incident might have been a robbery, given the notorious history of such occurrences at that busy intersection.

The reason for the shooting remains unknown, but this intersection has a reputation for various incidents, including robberies during peak hours and car hijackings.
An unidentified assailant fired five shots, hitting the unsuspecting woman with three bullets. The grandchildren escaped unharmed, leading investigators to believe that the shooter specifically targeted the grandmother.
As reported by IOL, she was travelling from Mandalay at the time of the shooting.
According to a man close to the family, she was on her way to school, along with her twin grandchildren, whom she was transporting. She was not just their grandmother but also a teacher. The news of the incident came through a phone call to his friend, who then informed him about what had happened.
The victim passed away in her seat, but the children were promptly taken out of the car at the scene.
Police spokesperson Joseph Swartbooi said they were investigating the incident – ‘The circumstances surrounding the incident cited in your inquiry are still under investigation. Philippi East police responded to a complaint earlier today, Thursday, August 3.
‘Upon their arrival near the corners of Govan Mbeki Drive and Sheffield Road at around 7am, they found the body of a woman inside a motor vehicle who had sustained gunshot wounds.
‘The victim was declared deceased at the scene by medical personnel. The unknown suspects fled the scene and have yet to be arrested. The motive for the attack is unknown.’
