This month, the Table Mountain Aerial Cableway proudly marks 94 years of operation. To join in the festivities, South Africans with valid identity documents can enjoy special pricing on weekdays.
Since opening on 4 October 1929, the cableway has transported more than 30 million visitors up its steep slopes to the awe-inspiring 360-degree panoramic vistas of Cape Town.

In its early days, a cable car made of wood with a tin roof, accommodating 19 passengers and a conductor, took almost 10 minutes to reach the top of the mountain, which stands at 704 metres.
Today, a modern cable car with a rotating floor can easily and quickly transport up to 65 passengers to the mountain’s peak in just four to five minutes.
For October, the Cableway is offering discounted special rates to all South African residents. With a valid South African identity document, you can secure a child’s round-trip ticket (ages 4 – 17) for just R100 and an adult ticket for R200 when riding the cable car on weekdays (Monday – Friday).
Happy 94th birthday, Table Mountain Cableway!
