Nine people sustained minor to serious injuries on Monday morning after a truck transporting a shipping container overturned onto a police van on the N2 highway between Jan Smuts Drive and Raapenberg Road.
While police have confirmed the incident, an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the accident is pending.

Responding to TimesLIVE’s inquiries, a spokesperson for the South African Police Service stated, ‘We can confirm that nine victims sustained injuries earlier today owing to a motor vehicle accident on the N2 highway between Jan Smuts Drive and Raapenberg Road at around 10:45am. The victims were transported to nearby hospitals.’

In response to this incident, the Mowbray Police have initiated a case of reckless and negligent driving, which will be subjected to further investigation.
Authorities have asked anyone who may have witnessed the incident to come forward and provide information by calling Crime Stop at 8600 10111.
Sections of the N2 highway were temporarily closed by the police to facilitate their response to the scene, leading to traffic congestion in the area.
