Two suspects were arrested on Tuesday morning by the Western Cape’s Serious and Violent Crimes Unit in connection with the murder of Bongeka Bidi, an environmental health practitioner employed by the City of Cape Town.

Bidi (41) who was in a silver Toyota Fortuner was shot and killed while she was sitting in her car in the parking lot of a municipal building in Strand, Cape Town, on Monday just after 8am.
Eyewitnesses reported that the assailant approached the vehicle on foot, firing multiple shots through the driver’s side window.
Following the attack, the gunman walked away, entered a white Opel Astra and fled the scene.
On Tuesday afternoon, police spokesperson Captain FC van Wyk revealed that the arrests of a 26-year-old and a 46-year-old occurred ‘very early’ that morning in Site C, Khayelitsha, according to News24.
The arrests followed the collection of witness statements, and the suspect’s vehicle was identified through a thorough examination. The identified vehicle, located in Site C, Khayelitsha, was subsequently confiscated and documented as evidence at Stikland.
The police confirmed that, at the time of her death, Bidi was employed in the health department of the City of Cape Town. Captain Van Wyk also disclosed that Bidi’s husband had been fatally shot in Qumbu, Eastern Cape, in October last year.
The two suspects are scheduled to appear in the Strand Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, facing charges of murder.
