While many athletes are likely to still find themselves on wobbly legs after a gruelling 42.2km on the road on Sunday, entries for the 2024 Sanlam Cape Town Marathon are now open.

However, avid and aspiring runners still have a year to prepare for the event, scheduled for 19 October next year.
Following Sunday’s successful race through the city’s streets, participants are strongly encouraged to beat the rush and book their spot at the start line of what promises to be a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

Elite South African runners will be hoping to stake their claim on the 2024 title after Sunday’s event was dominated by the Ethiopians, with the thrilling men’s category won by Adane Kebede Gebre and the women’s race taken by Tsige Haileslase Abreha.
Athletes from the Horn of Africa also took second and third for the ladies to dominate the podium with their impressive performances.
The 42.2-kilometre-long marathon course snaked through the Mother City, heading southeast through Woodstock, Rosebank, Rondebosch and Newlands. Turning back towards the central business district, the route returned via Mowbray, Observatory, Salt River and Gardens.
In the final 10 kilometres, the race passed within 100 metres of the finish line, looping to the far end of Sea Point and coming home along Beach Road and Helen Suzman Boulevard. After the relatively sheltered run along the hotel and high-rise apartment-lined Beach Road, the unprotected expanse of the final boulevard made the final kilometre exceptionally challenging.
South African entrants will have the first option, with entries for the 5km, 10km and trail run open to ID holders until 12 October and until 13 October for the marathon.
Entries for international and African runners will be open until 14 and 15 October respectively.
