When you think of “where to find the best burger spots,” your mind immediately goes to the bustling streets of Bree or the trendy corners of Kloof. But there’s more to the Mother City than the CBD, right?
I’m a creature of habit and burgers are always my go-to when trying out a new restaurant, writes Cape {town} Etc’s Lynn Cupido. Imagine the sheer joy I felt when I realised there is an entire day dedicated to this carb-filled goodness. But where to celebrate? As someone who calls the busy streets of Bellville her home, I wanted to find a few burger joints that were in my backyard.
Keep in mind, that the taste of any type of food is subjective, so what tastes good to me may not be good to you. With that being said, here are a few delicious burger spots in Bellville to help you celebrate Burger Day:
Burger Fair:
Okay! I might get some flak for this, but I stand by my decision to include Burger Fair on this list and it’s purely based on nostalgia and the fact that it was featured in a Jack Parow music video once. It’s a drive-in roadhouse restaurant that serves more than just burgers, including some pretty good ribs that are reasonably priced. Actually, most of the food here is reasonable and it’s pretty decent for what you’re paying for.
Location: 41 Strand Road, Thalmen
The NOB – No Ordinary Burger
Any restaurant that’s named ‘No Ordinary Burger’ is surely serving up the juiciest grub around, right? Located at Tygerfalls, they offer some massive burgers for those that are truly hungry or looking to challenge their stomachs. There are also some delicious “ordinary” options for those looking for something a little more traditional. Their ‘Fat Greek’ is truly something else, offering a lamb patty, dollop of tzatziki, and cheese.
Location: 2 Niagara Road, Tygerlake Building
Jackson and Black
Jackson and Black Coalgrill Steakhouse is located opposite Tygervalley Mall and is a great spot if you’re looking to treat yourself. The atmosphere gives off a fine dining experience without the exorbitant prices and their burgers are truly delicious, and I will always recommend their Waygu beef burgers. Go on a Monday to take advantage of their Burger Night Special which starts at R69.
Location: Gihon Buidling Corner Bill Bezuidenhout &, Sportica Crescent, Tygervalley
Copper Club
If you’re looking to satisfy your burger cravings while saving some money, then head to the Copper Club at Tyger Waterfront. On Tuesday they offer a half-price burger special with a range of mouth-watering burgers to choose from. Tuck into their delicious wagyu burger, or if you’re feeling really hungry, grab their giant copper burgers while enjoying stunning views of the waterfront.
Location: 18-19, Tyger Waterfront, Carl Cronje Drive, Bellville
Joe’s Easy Diner
Okay, this one isn’t in Bellville, but Parow is a stone’s throw away and Joe’s Easy Diner is something that needs to be experienced. This little diner used to have a range of locations around Cape Town but now finds itself nestled along Voortrekker. It has a 1950s American vibe going and their menu reflects just that, it’s the sauce that will have you coming back, but the food is good too and quite reasonably priced. They also have really weird burgers every once in a while, including a ramen/Dorito combination that you’ll either love or hate. Don’t forget to give their milkshakes a try!
Location: New National Lodge, 358 Voortrekker Road, Parow
