Weekends in the Mother City are a ball of fun – if you know where to go and the weather holds up. However, with so many exciting things to get up to, it can often be difficult to choose. Thankfully, you’ve got us.
Between a trip to Paris and an electric wine tasting, here are a few fun activities to add to your local weekend bucket list:
A trip to the West Coast
It’s happening, my fellow Capetonians – the flowers are blooming! The West Coast is a paradise for nature lovers and a nightmare for those with sinuses. But this unique coastline boasts incredible beaches and a once a year spectacle that will have you frolicking in a sea of wildflowers. During the months of August and September, this stretch of coast is carpeted in a kaleidoscope of colours and smells, thanks to the annual Flower Season. If you’re looking for the best places to snap some pics, make sure you check out our Flower Power Guide.
Go Hiking
Are you even a real Capetonian if you don’t enjoy a good sweat-inducing hike? There’s no doubt that this is almost every local’s favourite Saturday morning activity – emphasis on almost – but this is a wonderful way to start your day and definitely offers a glimpse of our beautiful City. From Lion’s Head to the gorgeous trails of the Helderberg Nature Reserve, Cape Town is bursting with some killer trails for beginners and those more advanced. If you’re looking for a few hiking spots that are as easy as a Sunday morning, make sure to take a peek at our guide.
A day exploring contemporary African art
Africa is a continent that’s teeming with creative talent, so why not take the day to explore all that Africa has to offer. The Zeitz MOCAA Museum will have you marvelling at the architecture and exploring every crevice of their extensive art collection. It’s truly an art lover’s dream and the perfect way to end a busy weekend.
Take a trip to Paris
If the thought of munching on a crispy baguette paired with a selection of creamy French cheese and a decadent pain au chocolat already has you drooling, then may we suggest PARIS Cape Town? This authentic French bakery is nestled in the heart of Sea Point and offers an array of French pastries that will have you feeling as though you’ve been transported to a quaint Parisian cafe – a drool-worthy way to spend your weekend we’d say.
Wine tasting on an e-bike
If you love sipping your way through the Cape Winelands and enjoy getting your heart pumping, you’ll love exploring various wine farms by e-bike. You’ll have the chance to discover a range of delicious wines in Stellenbosch or Franschhoek through safe and scenic routes that will leave you mesmerised.
