There’s a Scrooge in our midst this December – in the best way.
Ballet lovers and those who have been waiting for Christmas since July can relish in the news that one of Christmas’s top picks is dancing its way onto Artscape’s stages this December, thanks to the renowned choreographer Veronica Paper.
The return of A CHRISTMAS CAROL – THE STORY OF SCROOGE follows a sold-out run and critical acclaim of the production, and this year’s showcase might be the perfect early Christmas gift for your loved ones who adore the arts and theatre.
“A CHRISTMAS CAROL – THE STORY OF SCROOGE is a special Dickens treat for all ages. Dancers of the Cape Town City Ballet delight audiences in this timeless story about the triumph of joy and the human spirit over greed,” says the Cape Town City Ballet.
“This uplifting tale is a wonderful way to end the year and get into the holiday spirit,” says Debbie Turner, CEO of Cape Town City Ballet.
The musical arrangements have been dubbed “enchanting” whilst the production has been praised as a “heart-warming story [with] graceful choreography” by Broadway World.
The powerhouse creative team behind the gorgeous display of dance and festive spirit include choreography by South African ballet doyenne Veronica Paeper, Set and Costume design by design luminary Peter Cazalet and Lighting Design by the acclaimed designer Wilhelm Disbergen.
The role of Ebenezer Scrooge will once again be played by seasoned, multiple award-winning performer Marcel Meyer, who was most recently seen on stage at Artscape in The Lady Aoi.
A CHRISTMAS CAROL – THE STORY OF SCROOGEis one of more than 40 ballets, among them 16 full-length works, that have been choreographed by Paeper, who began choreographing in 1972.
