Situated next door to the Wilderer distillery, the La Grapperia is a German-Italian bistro and pizzeria that forms part of the multitude of eateries and experiences to enjoy at the Spice Route in Paarl.

La Grapperia offers a number of flavourful wood-fired, thin based pizzas – claimed by some to be the best this side of the Winelands – with a choice of 12 options to choose from.
These include a good ole margherita, salami, regina, collina, quattro stagioni, giorgio, parma, romana, matta, tropical, greco and frutti di mare.
A speciality at La Grapperia is the traditional flammkuchen (a thin-based, crisp flatbread topped with cream cheese, bacon, garlic and onions). You can also opt for the classic, which is topped with the above with added tomato and mushrooms, or the vegetarian, topped with the above and rocket.
If you’re in the mood for a feast, the restaurant also serves a selection of five platters ranging from non-meaty spreads laid with breads and Fairview Cheese, or vegetable platters abundant with fresh ingredients to Italian cold meat or Black Forest platters.
The restaurant’s outside seating area boasts beautiful oak trees and panoramic views of the Winelands, looking out as far as Table Mountain, which stands almost 70km away. For colder days, the cosy fireplace inside or their award-winning spirits will keep you warm.

It’s an ideal location to bring the whole family along. From grandparents, parents, aunts, uncles, and, of course, the little ones too. While the adults indulge in Wilderer’s G&Ts, wine or beer on tap, the children will be more than occupied with the jungle gym on site.
