The Mother City is in for some 4th of July fireworks when the Baby Boks return to Cape Town for the World Rugby U20 Championship in Cape Town.
For the first time in over a decade, the prestigious international tournament returns to the city and local supporters are encouraged to make their way to the Athlone Stadium on Tuesday.

At the heart of this sporting event is Stadium, which is yet again a venue of choice for rugby games. Nine tournament matches are scheduled to be played on the pitch, including the World Rugby U20 Championship 2023 Final.
Tuesday’s action gets underway when the Australian under-20 side take to the field against England at 2pm.
This will be followed by an outing between France and Wales before the highlight of the day, the fixture between the Baby Boks and Argentina at 7:30pm.
More matches are scheduled for Athlone Stadium on 9 and 14 July.

‘The City’s Economic Growth Directorate is excited to be hosting more rugby matches at the Athlone Stadium, one of Cape Town’s strategic assets,’ said James Vos, the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Economic Growth.
Mayco member for Safety and Security, JP Smith said that the event was a testament to the facility’s versatility to host various types of events and sports, including rugby.’
‘In May, Athlone Stadium also successfully hosted the DHL Western Province Currie Cup. The World Rugby U20 Championship will be the latest feather in Athlone Stadium’s cap and we wish the teams especially South Africa, all the best.’
‘Cape Town is quickly becoming the go-to destination for World Cups in Africa and what better time to have the World Rugby U20 Championship than during the school holidays. I encourage all Capetonians, parents and caregivers, to come out with their children, on Tuesday to support our under 20 South African team at Athlone Stadium and to support local business in the area,’ he said.
